Do’s & Don’ts when staying in a Hotel

We have stayed in many hotels as undoubtedly you all also have, and here are the Do’s and Don’ts when Staying in a Hotel, also called Hotel Etiquette Dos and Don’ts.

It is amazing how many  people feel that manners no longer matter when they are staying at a hotel. Well, Good Manners and Respect Always Matter.

Do’s: Be polite to staff and other guests, report issues immediately, conserve resources like water and energy, and secure your valuables.

Don’t: Do not make excessive noise, Don’t leave a mess, Do not smoke in non-smoking areas ( Eg ; Reception Area’s, Stairs, lobby, Corridors, Restaurant Area, Near Kitchen), Don’t take hotel property, or misuse of amenities.

Do’s

  • Treat staff with respect: Be polite and patient with all hotel employees.
  • Be considerate of others: Keep noise levels down in hallways and public areas, and use headphones for calls or media.
  • Report issues promptly: Inform the front desk of any maintenance problems or accidental damage so they can be fixed.
  • Conserve resources: Turn off lights, heater’s, air conditioning, and faucets when you leave the room. Reuse towels to save water and energy.
  • Secure your valuables: Use the in-room safe to store your money, passport, and other valuable items.
  • Use hotel amenities properly: Don’t tamper with smoke detectors, and only use provided equipment. Keep your bags on luggage racks, not on beds or sofas.
  • Tidy up before leaving: Before housekeeping comes, try to tidy up your room a bit. It’s a dirty job, and a little help can go a long way.

Don’ts

  • Don’t make a mess: Keep your room reasonably clean. Housekeeping is not your personal cleaning crew.
  • Don’t smoke in non-smoking areas: Fines can be hefty, and you’ll inconvenience other guests.
  • Don’t make excessive noise: This includes loud music, shouting, or loud conversations, especially late at night.
  • Don’t steal hotel property: Only take complimentary items like mini-toiletries and stationery. Leave items like robes, towels, and electronics.
  • Don’t abuse hotel amenities: Be mindful of other guests waiting to use facilities.
  • Don’t be rude to staff: Treat staff with respect. Address complaints calmly and discreetly rather than yelling or demanding.
  • Don’t forget to check out on time: Respect the hotel’s checkout time to avoid extra fees.
